Vic: Top industrial judge to talk on unfair dismissal
Australia's top industrial judge will speak on the federal government's controversialunfair dismissal bills at a union conference in Melbourne this morning.
Conference organisers say Australian Industrial Relations Commission Chief JusticeGEOFFREY GIUDICE is expected to call for a more streamlined industrial legal system.
In a rare appearance by a man who has only made five speeches since 1999, Justice GIUDICEwill talk on the the overlapping web of legislation and whether it undermines workers'protection.
Justice GIUDICE is a former industrial relations manager and union official.
Unfair dismissal claims account for the bulk of hearings before the Australian IndustrialRelations Commission.
Today's conference, organised by the Australian Workers' Union, comes as workplacerelations laws are before a Senate committee inquiry.
