Fed: Labor rethinks asylum seeker policy

CHURCHILL, Vic, Feb 5 AAP - The federal Labor Party has developed a new policy frameworkfor dealing with asylum seekers, based on tougher border protection and regional agreementswith source countries.
At a four-hour meeting at Churchill in Victoria's La Trobe Valley today, Labor's federalMPs thrashed out the basis for the party's new post-election asylum seeker policy.
Frontbencher Carmen Lawrence, who was expected to be disciplined at the meeting forattacking her party's policy on the issue, failed to attend the meeting for medical reasons.
