FED:Leaders arrive in Sydney for boat meeting

Opposition foreign affairs spokeswoman JULIE BISHOP says she's glad the government's
taken a step towards re-embracing the coalition's policy on asylum seekers.

Ms BISHOP, opposition immigration spokesman SCOTT MORRISON, Foreign Minister KEVIN
RUDD and Immigration Minister CHRIS BOWEN are meeting in Sydney to try to resolve the
impasse over where Australia should process asylum seekers who arrive by boat.

The government's offered to reopen a detention centre on Nauru, as advocated by Opposition
leader TONY ABBOTT, if he in turn supports Labor's Malaysian solution, but Mr ABBOTT has
ruled that out.

The meeting, which was scheduled to get underway at 1.30 (AEDT), is expected to go
through the afternoon.
